Gun Control DEBATE with Bump Stock Poll

edited November 1 in Gun Control Debates Posts: 3
Crazy people kill people. I think we need to really focus on background checks and limiting other aspects to make guns more deadly. If we were to have enough control over the proper distribution of guns and gun sales to only people who are mentally sain. The main reason people do not want there to be more guns sold is because of mass shootings, murders, and assassinations, but guns are just tools commonly used for these so if we can dull the capability of guns at doing these things guns can become safer. Some things used to make guns more deadly are long barrels, suppressors, bump stocks, and other modifications. Not only can guns become safer but more good civilians with these firearms can protect others and themselves in most situations because the police can not show up in an instant and guns have the power to kill quickly. If there had been someone in the hotel where the Las Vegas Strip shooter, Stephen Paddock, who would have killed or wounded the gunman it is possible that many people could have been saved. However the what seems to be the biggest perpetrator of the Las Vegas shooter is the bump stock. The bump stock was not a very well known attachment before the Las Vegas Strip shooting. This attachment is a variation of a stock which simply allows the gun to move back and forth from the stock. The shooter of the gun then hovers their finger over the trigger and pushing the gun forward allowing the recoil of the gun to push the gun into the finger of the shooter simulating a high rate of fire by only pushing the gun forward. These bump stocks simulate the fire rate of an fully automatic machine guns, which are illegal. In 1934 a law was passed which defines a machine gun ( ). This law seems to be the only reason these bump stocks are actually legal. The definition of a machine gun is multiple shots fired with the single activation of the trigger. Because the bump stock makes the user hit the trigger many times in a short period of time this is not considered fully automatic or a machine gun. This bump stock does not need to be banned though because it is even possible to simulate the use of the bump stock by lightly holding the gun. There will always be ways to easily make these semi-automatic guns seemingly automatic so the only way we can stop this rapid fire of guns is to make limits on oh fast they can fire. For an example change semi-automatic guns to have a limited fire rate so no matter how fast one pulls the trigger the gun will only fire a certain amount of rounds per minute. This can be done within the electrical mechanism of the gun making it significantly harder to mod. Guns are already very well spread out throughout the country so instead of focusing on limiting the spread of them we should focus on keeping guns away from the people who will kill with them and by making guns not such a good tool for murder and assassinations.
